If I were a symbolist (actually I am) and a Fundamentalist Christian Person (which I am not), I would take the rare winter snowstorm that happened today in the southern tip of Texas AND the winning lottery numbers for today (Christmas)666, as signs of the ENDTIMES.
When I was in college, a group of born-again people lived in a house next to our building. At least once a week they would be atop the building raising their hands in the air, praying, and waiting for the RAPTURE. If I entered the kitchen they could see me and they would shout out to me, "Rebecca join us for the COMING!"
They just wanted to see me fry. I am full of sin. I own it. Religious folks get it erased so they are all clean and ready. I'm dirty. I'm human.

"Show me a well-adjusted, successful man who wants to settle down and have kids, and I'm not interested, but find me an alcoholic in his midthirties that still thinks his band might make it, and just tell me where I can show up and buy him dinner."
I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I saw Ann Coulter on a VH1 “My Coolest Year” segment on Deadheads. She stated that she attended 60 Deadhead shows. Some hippie boy must have really pissed her off for her to turn into such a brittle, rabid right-winger.
Women are really good at taking anger and using it as a great motivator.
Susan Powder did it. And look at the empire Martha Stewart build after her husband left her.
Give me one man that breaks me in half and wow! I wonder what I could manifest.
There is such beauty in being able to directly connect with the collectors who purchase my art. One of the Anne Sexton pieces went to a professor who bought it for her friend who is a Sexton scholar (she is a Plath scholar). As she put it …you could say we have the academic corner on crazy bitches who kill themselves.” The monkey love art went to a professor at MIT. Three large works went to a man with the same (real) last name as mine…my long lost uncle. A Kerouac painting went to a man who is a BIG fan, has been since the 50s. The DaQ was bought by a grandson of the founder.
It is just beautiful!
I’m affiliated with two galleries. One of the galleries sold 6 pieces last month to the same client in Chicago. (She has two more out on “preview.”) They tell me the client is creating a wall of me. That’s a heady thought. Although I will never know whom this person is since the sales are through the gallery I do not get to know his/her name or really anything other than what the gallery people tell me. So there is a bit of disconnect. Still I am grateful and happy…at least about something.
I’m happy it is winter too. I adore the cold snap when my face freezes up into one unanimated position and my breath turns into ice and crashes to the ground. Last week the river glassed over. Stopped. It is a false illusion, probably a 1/4 “ deep. If you tried to walk on it you would be churned downriver in the vicious current. Later. Around late February you can walk it. There is a neighborhood teenage boy who walks it to school when he misses the bus. In the summer I have seen him swim it. He is interesting. All of the deer have disappeared.
Two days ago I was at the salon waiting for an appointment to get my hair done in something fun for the holidays. I picked up a copy of Glamour and paged through it somewhat bored way when I came upon a huge full-page ad that featured a really wrinkled older woman. POW! Glamour is a mag filled with images of beautiful women and articles on how to improve your ugly worthless self. This woman is the type of image you are far more likely to find in National Geographic than a woman’s beauty/fashion mag.
The picture woke me up. Following it were other strange pictures…a woman with long GRAY hair, a FAT woman, a FRECKLED woman, and a woman with TEENSY breasts. There was little text. It just intimated that woman are beautiful just as they are….NATURAL! It was a bold move by the makers of DOVE products to say give up the fake EVERYTHING!
I LOVE it! The women were beautiful. And can you imagine what woman could achieve if they didn’t spend half their lives trying to be something other than what they are. WE COULD CREATE A BETTER WORLD. We would be nicer to our partners. We would be better to our children. It would be an amazing planet. It is a heady thought.
